High tides in Saint-Malo: a unique spectacle!

If you come to Saint-Malo, you'll have a unique opportunity to witness the high tides, a natural spectacle typical of the city. Not only is it a unique phenomenon for the eyes, but it's also an opportunity to discover a very different landscape of the bay, and to enjoy some great fishing on foot!
What are high tides in Saint-Malo?
Saint-Malo is home to the highest tides in continental Europe. Worldwide, it ranks just behind the Bay of Fundy in Canada.
The tidal range, the difference in water level between low and high tide, can reach 13 meters in Saint-Malo. The phenomenon is all the more spectacular given the rapid rise in water levels in the bay of the corsair town.

To classify each tide, the maritime and meteorological services assign a coefficient to each one. The higher the number, the stronger the tide (with a value between 20 and 120).
Here are the next high tide dates and their coefficients in the Bay of Saint-Malo:
● February 2019: Tuesday February 19 to Saturday February 23, 2019. Coefficient 115 on Thursday.

A show not to be missed!
The high tides provide an exceptional opportunity to take a fresh look at the bay and make some wonderful discoveries. The vistas change, offering new panoramas, and the unique light of these periods provides magnificent photo opportunities.
Last but not least, fishing on foot at high tide is prodigiously fruitful! Low tide opens up huge expanses of sea, offering a rich hunting ground for shellfish and crustaceans. It's an ideal time to spend a weekend in our Saint Malo hotel with sea view, where you can appreciate the beauty of the bay in a whole new light and make the most of it!
